Happy Birthday, SMD!

If you follow Steph at Life According to Steph, you might know that today is her birthday. She celebrates all month long and was dealt a bit of a blow when her husband went and broke his leg, requiring surgery and weeks of limited mobility. Just a minor detail - she used the money she had budgeted for birthday outings and did some fun online shopping for herself!

Our first get together

You might NOT know that Steph is my friend in real life, although we first met on the world wide web. We were part of this group of women on a website-that-shall-not-be-named who posted inane shit about our lives discussed important topics, until that site got mad at us and we picked up our toys and went elsewhere. We had the chance to meet in person in June of 2000. In the years since then we've gotten together many times: mostly in Baltimore at our friend Mimi's house; also Ocean City MD, my house in Columbus, her surprise 30th birthday party in Philadelphia, and her wedding 2 1/2 years ago at the Jersey Shore.

The fact that most of these pics are in a bar is completely coincidental. And I'm letting Aaron make a cameo - Hiiiii Aaron! (That was the first time they met and we had been drinking for quite a while before Aaron showed up.)

Some things about Steph:
  • is fiercely loyal to her framily (that's friends who are family, copyright pending)
  • has serial killer handwriting
  • has immense feelings about women's rights
  • used to be anti-pet but now has two pugs, Gus and Geege, and they've changed her tune and her life
  • has a gorgeous smile
  • is insanely organized
  • has the best stories about commuting to work on the train (see: Bumpit girl, quiet-car shenanigans)
  • is hugely involved with Relay for Life
  • is one of the people who I contact first for any big thing (if anything bad happens to me, Aaron has her number)
  • totally has my back when I go off on a rampage at a douchebag in a pizza shop after the bars close (hypothetically speaking, of course)

Happy Birthday, Steeph! Love, Queen Gween.
