Embarrassing Moments Revealed

When I saw this topic for Day 10, I was at a loss, though certainly NOT because I haven't had my share of embarrassing moments. I eliminated any occasions that involve intoxication, for the sake of my mother who does read this blog (Hi, Mom!). So then the overwhelming commonality in my embarrassing moments is crying. I'm a quick cryER - I cry when I'm happy, sad, and especially when I'm angry or frustrated.

Yeah, if only my eyes looked this good while crying...

Here are two examples:

Several years ago, I had to deal with an IRS agent about an audit (not mine). Now, I have to tell you that most IRS agents I've met are not evil, but do NOT assume that they automatically know everything. Because believe me, they don't. This guy, however, was not very "user-friendly" and we went round and round over an issue and I got so upset that I had to excuse myself and go cry in the restroom. And by the way, I was right and he had to admit that to me later, but not before I felt like a total fool.

But perhaps the worst one was over 10 years ago, and this also involves work. It was time for my annual review and I was prepared to ask for a bigger raise than I was probably going to be offered. And sure enough, it came time for me to make my case and I freakin' cried. In front of my two bosses. Horrible, humiliating, you name it.

I did get a fat raise (and I deserved it) but I hated the way it happened.

  1. Thanks for the shout out to my Momma!

I hate when I'm frustrated and in a situation where I should NOT be crying and I can't hold it in. WAH.

  2. I'm a cryer, too, and I hate it! I think I got blessed (or cursed) with all the emotional genes that should have been dispersed to my whole family. I am a mushy cryer and it pisses me off!

  3. I'm a crier, too, guilty as charged. It must have been mortifying to not be able to hold it together in front of the bosses. But hey, you got the fat rasie you deserved, so maybe those tears did some good! :-)

    Hoooray for Steph's Momma!!!!

Happy fake Put On Purple Day!!!!!! <3

  4. I HATE crying in front of people! Or having them be aware of the fact that they made me cry. Such an awful feeling.

  6. JMJ I tried to post a comment from my phone and it did not go thru. Thanks, too, for the shout out! Luckily, I do not have many things in my life to make me cry now, unless it is tears of joy-BUT-I way hold my tears in because it is always an inconvenient time. It is healthy to cry, but is perceived as a sign of weakness!
On a fun note- did you ever read the embarrassing moments articles! In the magazines Steph gives me, some of them are wild. I do think my mom aka Gamma, did come out of the ladies room with her skirt tucked in her pantyhose. Always good for a laugh.
    Laughter is the best medicine!
    Happy weekend, everyone.
    Love, Steph's MOMMA

  7. I cried today at work too Gwen. About 5 in the top 10 most awful work days! I'm usually OK with the guys (I do construction finance) because it's all kidding and superficial, but when the other woman on the account, who lives in Pittsburgh, called, I lost it. Oh yeah, and I usually work from home and touch down in an office once a quarter...guess what day it was today. Yay! Jennifer Johnson
